Philosophy or Teaching Methodology?
I have now started the second half of my lit review and deep into the Constructivists view points. Turns out that there are a lot of interpretations to this subject. Some see this as a philosophy and some see it as a teaching methodology. So where do I see it? - well, I am not sure yet - I think I see it as both. Many of our best teaching practices are deeply rooted in the philosophy, but present themselves as methodology- hands on learning, student centered classrooms, teachers as facilitators, students learning for understanding - not just regurgitating. Sounds like a great classroom to teach and learn in. The roots of Constructivism are credited to the great educators Piaget, Dewey, Bruner, and Vygotsky. The more I learn about these philosophers/teachers, the more intrigued I become with the subject matter.
