To all Parents, Students, and Staff:
Thank you for a wonderful first week. It was great to have students back in the building reminding us why we are educators. We plan all summer for students to return, but having them back makes all of the difference. It was nice to see so many parents at our Back to School Social and all of the parents who have already dedicated time to volunteer to make sure our opening week was a success.

About Me
- Ann M. McCarty
- I am entering my fifth year as Principal of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. This year we will continue to work on instruction through the implementation of Reader's Workshop and differentiation while finding ways for students to express their creativity and uniqueness with alternative assessments. We will continue to explore the IB Middle Years Programme and put an emphasis on the use of ACCESS to transform instruction. This year I will try to figure out what to do with my time now that dissertation is over. Once I do that, I will begin working on some articles involving young adolescents and their very important development.
My Education and Background
In March 2010, I successfully defended my dissertation and graduated from Virginia Tech in May. The three year Doctor of Education program at Virginia Tech was a wonderful educational experience that included a tremendous amount of work, collaboration, and patience.
