So what is Breaking Ranks In the Middle?
This week I have been attending the BRIM workshop which has proven to be very beneficial for me. BRIM is a comprehensive way of looking at change and implementing change at the middle school level through 9 modules of learning. These modules are based on research, practice, and strategies that have proven to work. I think the module that I liked the best was on personalization. I have had many people tell me that they think it is great that we greet the kids in the morning when they get off the bus or are dropped off in the mornings - but this gets at the heart of this. Students need to be a part of the process in school and need to be connected to their school. Something as simple as a greeting in the morning or a smile when it is raining can make a student's day. I can't wait to get back to the building and seeing my morning crew of PAWS and all of the students in the classrooms, halls, and cafeteria.
