Teacher Professional Development

I thought I was almost finished with my Lit Review until I met with my committee co-chair. After meeting with him I began to research and narrow down the huge subject of Professional Development. In this reading I have found 3 common things: 1. It must be research based 2. It should be results driven 3. It should be embedded withing the work day and/or job relevant. Teacher professional development is key to student academic achievement and student understanding. When I walk into many classrooms, I see the WKLAD - what students will know, learn, and be able to do. When I opened my first amazon box the book I pulled out was Preparing Teachers for a Changing World - What Teachers Should Learn and Be Able To Do - written by Linda Darling-Hammond. I knew the book was going to be great. Hammond is a well respected author in teacher professional development and a true advocate for teacher education.
